Why indeed should we consider mathematical or scientific things in a historical way?...
I believe that today more than ever we need such a historical viewpoint. In fact, more than ever our science is hanging on whether its representatives are able to see themselves and the sphere of their activity as elements in a long series of developments, and to what extent they are able to learn from the awareness of this relationship between the present and the future.
